The Air Quality Division of the District Department of the Environment develops and implements plans and programs to meet and maintain federal and District of Columbia air quality standards. The Division protects and manages the District's air resources in accordance with Title 20 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (20 DCMR) Air Pollution Control Act of 1984. The division's branches and programs are described below:
Air Quality Division Branches and Programs
The Air Quality Division of the Environmental Health Administration is composed of three branches that administer three principal programs. The Division’s branches and programs are described below.
Air Quality Division Branches:

Compliance and Enforcement - ensures compliance of Federal and District air quality laws and regulations through inspection and enforcement.

Engineering and Planning - reviews designs for individual pollution sources and develops city and region-wide air quality control strategies.

Technical Services - operates 24-hour
ambient air monitoring network throughout the city keeping track of air quality trends. Also oversees quality assurance/quality control, program evaluation and reporting to the EPA for the District's Enhanced Vehicle Emissions Inspection/Maintenance Program.
Air Quality Division Programs:

Radon and Indoor Air Quality - conducts investigations, develops specific solutions and engages in outreach and policy-level work to protect the health of people in commercial and residential buildings, schools and healthcare facilities in the District of Columbia.

Small Business Assistance Program - provides businesses with free and confidential compliance help with clean air laws and regulations.

Asbestos Abatement - engages in various field and technical activities to ensure compliance with Federal and District asbestos regulations.
